Major Bantam Weekend Wrap Up
As most of you know one of the hardest things in sport is win games that you are supposed to win. This past weekend we did just that.
After tackling perhaps the hardest schedules for a Major Bantam basketball team in Ontario this year, our team has come away stronger and ready to
start what we have been calling season two.
This past weekend the Major Bantams played in their most successful weekend yet winning all three games.
The first game was tight one. We were short a couple of players but everyone stepped it up and we beat a very balanced Sarnia Valhalla team
56-49. Our post players Dani Leroux and Sydney Emerson played outstanding, with Shelby Thomas and Reanna Reisch filling in as post players to
help us secure the victory. It was an excellent team victory.
Our second game was against Chatham Wildcats, whom we have beat a couple of times this year. This game was a real measure of just how far the
the girls have come this year. Their improvement was very evident as we easily handled Chatham 52-23, our most convincing victory against them.
All 10 players scored and Bailey Csabai and Leslee Ward had perhaps their strongest games of the year. Rayne Keillier also had her strongest game
playing against many of her Chatham friends.
Our last game was against the Huron Lakers, a team evenly ranked team with us. The Lakers entered into the final game
with a 2-0 record, the same as us. After playing against the Lakers many times last year and winning some and losing some,
it was huge sign of just how far we had come. The Valiants, led by guards Tiara Davis and Khuloud Ahmed and posts Arianna Milani
and Coko Okoko, completely dominated the Lakers. We jumped to an early 18-5 lead in the first quarter and won the game convincingly 74-41.
Our play making and passing was certainly the best of the year. Our press was stifling early on, creating many scoring opportunities.
This coming weekend the girls are at home at the University of Windsor on Sunday March 11th.
At 9:00 am we play Chatham Wildcats and at noon we play the Michigan Grizzlies. Drop out and say hello if you would like to see us in action.
